(Santa Barbara) - Cabana Home, in collaboration with Edward Cella Art + Architecture, announces a solo exhibition for contemporary Los Angeles based sculptor, Scott McMillin. The exhibition presents a collection of works that focuses on two primary components: raw material and the transformation of the raw material. Using discarded car parts and scrap metal, McMillin creates low relief artworks from society’s cast-offs and transforms them into harmoniously balanced geometric patterns and free form abstractions. Born and raised in Los Angeles, McMillin grew up heavily influenced by the history and beauty a car carries. When creating an artwork, he is inspired by the personal memories we experience and the narratives that it holds. Who owned this automobile? Did they carry a newborn child home for the first time, or did they transport two lovers to a secret rendezvous? Similar to how a painter constructs a painting by using acrylic paint and oil colors, he deconstructs automobile parts to create a composition of reassembled shapes and colors.

Scott McMillin received his BFA in sculpture from California State University of Fullerton. He has participated in the acclaimed Navy Pier Walk exhibition in Chicago, Illinois for several years and the El Paseo Sculpture Walk in Palm Desert, California. Currently, his sculpture is in the Mitchell Museum and Sculpture Park in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and International Sculpture Center in Hamilton, New Jersey.

In conjunction to McMillin’s exhibition, ECAA and Cabana Home presents an exhibition of new paintings by Los Angeles painter, Donnie Molls, at Goodman Reed Motorcars.  A self-taught artist, traditional photographic development processes inspire Molls artmaking process. He uses silver gelatin bromide to transfer images directly onto the canvas and then paints oil onto the canvas to create landscapes that evoke a sense of nostalgia and memory.  He is included in many major art collections and has been featured in New American Painters, Rivera, Coast, PUTA magazines, to name a few. This exhibition will be the first debut of his work in the Santa Barbara area.

MOTOR/ Home is the eleventh in an on-going sequence of exhibitions organized by gallerist Edward Cella of Edward Cella Art + Architecture in collaboration with Caroline and Steven Thompson, principals of Cabana Home.  Through regular presentation of new and notable contemporary artists, the ongoing series seeks to open a dialogue between artists and collectors in Santa Barbara, Los Angeles and beyond.

THE EXHIBITIONS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
